A truly exceptional vintage, considered among the best produced by Tancredi Biondi Santi.
ORIGIN
The 1964 Riserva was produced exclusively with estate grown grapes sourced from the oldest vines with over 25 years of age. This wine antecedes the registration of the proprietary BBS11 Sangiovese Grosso clone (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), which bears the name of the family. This clone was formally recognized in 1978.
AGEING
The 1964 Riserva was aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 4 years. It benefited from a long refinement in the bottle in the quiet and darkness of “La Storica”, the bottle library at Tenuta Greppo where all the historic vintages of Biondi-Santi Riserva are scrupulously kept.
TOPPING UP
This vintage was topped up and the cork was changed in 1985.
This wine was chosen by the Italian Sommelier Foundation as the best Italian wine of all times for the occasion of the 150° Anniversary of Italy’s unification.
